Electrical Banana……..Is Bound to be the Very Next Phase
Hurdy Gurdy Man
Even as a kid hearing Donovan’s song “Mellow Yellow” I instinctively knew that something weird was going on………..electric bananas? whatever next? Still it was the 60’s and we were enjoying “the White Heat of Technology”, “the Space Race”, “Free Love” and there would be “Jerusalem” just round the corner or so we were led to believe........more

Social Climbing
By any standards the 2008 edition of the Goodwood Festival of Speed was a fantastic success.
Every aspect was top notch, from the action on the Hill to the Cartier displays on the lawns, it was a veritable cornucopia of motoring excellence. more >>>

Aren’t family businesses wonderful? Unlike their wholly owned public counterparts, these enterprises are not only tied to the idea of profit making, they’re likewise immersed at the same time in the often non-rational emotions of their private owners. The most recent example of this potentially self- destructive phenomenon can be seen in the near daily soap opera that is Porsche.........more

Festivities of Speed

When the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series visited Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca last year Editor Morse and I left with the impression that the series was Hell-bent on delivering “Club Racing Without the Crowds” to a public who couldn’t afford to waste a hundred dollar fill-up to spend a day at the races anyway.  Then the world changed over the past winter.  The nation exchanged an unpopular president for a rock-star law professor,............more

Few, I think, could argue that Peugeot fully deserved to win at Le Mans in 2009. The French cars again had a speed advantage over rivals Audi and Aston Martin. They had brought in wise endurance racing heads to replace the big, slow names. In perfect weather conditions, the team got one car through the 24 hours, without suffering a single mechanical problem.
As a race it wasn’t much to look at. The winning car of David Brabham, Alexander Wurz and Marc Gene took the lead in the sixth hour, and stayed there to the end............more

Take 25 kilometres of bends, straights, climbs and dips...........add 200,000 well marinaded spectators, top with 170 cars and season well with a factory head to head between cousins Porsche and Audi........more

With the news headlines dominated with stories of politicians fiddling the expenses, lining their pockets at the taxpayers’ expense whilst mere mortals worry about whether or not they are going to get a wage packet at all .....more

ALMS at Miller
When Mormon Church Leader Brigham Young led his flock to Salt Lake City in 1847 and declared “this is the place”, he had a vision and a plan as to how this city of Zion should be laid out.......................more

It’s all over the financial news and on forums. VW versus Porsche, Piech versus Wiedeking. Back In January of 2008 a column on this very subject graced the home page of SCP. So as Porsche was recently able to avoid bankruptcy by the very same ilk that Wiedeking wanted to dispose of, this column is worth another visit....more

Sunshine Superman
I’ll admit it, I’ve never fallen for the rantings of opportunists like Al Gore & Co., but now I’m warming (sorry!) to the idea that man might have an affect on the climate – well, one man actually.
No matter what time of the year Lord March organises an event......more

The Price of Progress
Dining in the Outback Steakhouse in Florida, Daniel Perdrix and Daniel Poissenot had good reason to be pleased. The ACO’s general manager and technical director were celebrating the fact that the petrol-powered Acura was on pole position, .....more.

Mountain Dew
The 2009 ALMS was always going to be a struggle once Audi and Porsche packed up their tents and headed for the Fatherland.
But the Show goes on, some days better than others, Miller was one of the difficult events. Still it happened and we are ready for brighter days. The Big Kahuna.......more

Field Sports
A stately home in the sun, fast cars, girls in both kinds of minis, ah it must be Goodwood.
The 2009 Goodwood Festival of Speed is approaching and in anticipation Lord March invited the Fouth Estate down to his gaff for a bit of a preview, he even laid on some clement weather.
